Terms
Last updated: 1 November 2026
Read this first. Midnight Ride shows who else is out tonight. Its directions are a guide, it is not an emergency service, and it is not a reason to look at your phone while moving. Meeting people you don't know is your decision. Use your judgement, obey the law, and never use the phone while riding or driving.
1. Agreement
These Terms govern your use of the Midnight Ride website and app. By using them you accept these Terms. If you don't, please don't use the app.
2. What the app is
A map, live at night, where riders and drivers can show they're out, see who else is, ask to join each other, and warn each other about road hazards.
3. What it is not
- Not a full navigation system. Directions to a rider are a guide only.
- Not an emergency or rescue service. It cannot call for help.
- Not a way to check that anyone is who they say they are.
4. Safety and your responsibility
- Don't use the phone while moving. Set it up before you go, or pull over.
- Obey traffic law and speed limits everywhere. Nothing in the app rewards speed, and we never record it.
- Meeting people is your call. Riders are anonymous. Meet in public places, trust your instincts, and leave if something feels wrong. Use Closed, Block and Report.
- Routes are a guide. They come from OpenStreetMap, made by volunteers, and can be wrong: closed roads, wrong turns, roads your vehicle may not use. Road signs, traffic law and the road in front of you always win. Set the route before you move.
- Hazard reports are user-made and unverified. They may be wrong, old or missing. The road in front of you is what counts. Police and camera markers are information for road safety only; where such alerts are restricted by law, they are switched off.
- You alone are responsible for your safety, your passengers, your vehicle and your licence.
5. Age and eligibility
You must be 18 or older and legally allowed to ride or drive the vehicle you use.
6. How to behave
Don't harass, threaten or follow anyone who hasn't said yes. Don't organise street racing or dangerous riding. Don't impersonate anyone, use offensive nicknames, or post false hazard reports. We may hide, block or remove any rider at our discretion, without notice.
7. What you submit
You keep ownership of your nickname and reports. You allow us to store and show them to other riders to run the app.
8. Free, and how it's paid for
The app is free. If donations don't cover the server bill, we may run one sponsor slot on the boot screen only — never on the map, never targeted, never using your location or data.
9. Availability
The app is provided as is. It depends on third-party services that may be unavailable. We may change or stop any feature at any time.
10. Warranties and liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we give no warranties, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for injury, death or damage arising from meeting other riders, from hazard reports, or from your use of the app — except where liability cannot be excluded, including for intent, gross negligence or under the German Product Liability Act. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected.
11. Ending
You can stop at any time; Delete everything removes your data. We may suspend access if you break these Terms.
12. Changes and law
We may update these Terms; the date at the top shows when. German law applies, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. Mandatory consumer law of your country still applies.
